The Goonies was filmed at several locations in and around Astoria, Oregon. A group of fans wanting to see the movie and visit film locations in the early 2000s prompted the creation of The Goonies Weekend. This year Astoria celebrates 30 years of the Goonies and fans can spend an entire weekend immersed in the world of the Goondocks. Fans from all over the world flock to Astoria. There were close to 10,000 visiting for the 25th. This year they expect crowds of 12,000 - 15,000.
All details are not finalized, so make sure you sign up for updates. They have an amazing weekend planned!
VirtuaLug is a group of Lego enthusiasts/builders from around the world. Last year they put together a Goonies build for BrickCon in Seattle. There are no Goonies Lego sets. This was designed entirely from scratch. Their masterpiece will be on display at the Astoria Armory.
One Eyed Willie's ship The Inferno, built specifically for The Goonies, was dismantled after filming, but Astoria will be visited by the Lady Washington, a magnificent sailing vessel built in 1989. A limited number of tickets are available to Sail With Sloth.
Behind the Scenes of the Goonies and the Shot in Astoria Bus Tour will take place several times throughout the weekend.
You can hunt for treasure with
Geocaching, there is cosmic bowling at Chunk's Bowling Alley, block party, bonfire, film showings.......lots to keep any Goonie happy.
Be sure to stop in to the 80s Con for a bit of nostalgia or the younger generation can get a sense of the decade that brought us The Goonies.
If you're the active type you may want to give the Truffe Shuffle 5K walk/run a go.
And say goodbye to Warren Field where the opening shots of Goonies were filmed. Sadly, it'll be demolished soon and the film locale will be lost.
There will be plenty of momentos to take home. Albino Dragon and Ripple Junction will be at 80s Con along with several talented area artisans. And make sure you patronize the local businesses!!
Tickets can be purchased here starting at 10:00 AM Pacific time tomorrow:
